Maid of the Mist

This was the first book I wrote after becoming a full time author - my father in law returned from a holiday at Niagara Falls and happened to mention the legend of the Maid of the Mist and that immediately got me thinking. I just thought, I`m a full time author now, I don`t need anyone`s permission to take off!

So I was at Niagara Falls within a week, booked into a slightly seedy motel and determined to explore every nook and cranny in pursuit of my story. Except I couldn`t find it. And despite the falls themselves being lovely, the town itself is a bit of a dump and I spent a lot of time lying on my bed watching re-runs of Mad About You.

But then on the final day, a story finally came to me, and I`m really quite fond of it - Lelewala, the Indian princess, is sacrificed to save her sick village, by being made to row over Niagara falls – and then washes up in modern day America. Or does she?

The local cop investigates and soon finds himself up to his neck in myth and mystery.
