The Seagulls have Landed

This was a joy, and a disappointment. I decided to make the third part of the trilogy a big, epic adventure, nearly twice the size of the previous books. Eddie is growing up, and still being pursued by Captain Black and the Reservoir Pups – but he has new enemies to conquer as well.

The biggest of these is a highly addictive drug called Crush which has been introduced to the country by The Seagulls, which is a nickname for a large influx of immigrants fleeing a natural disaster in their home country. Drug addiction! Explosions! Massed battles between rival gangs! Romance, even!

And the disappointment? The trilogy was bought by Random House in America, and I hoped it might do rather well over there. The first title was published, trumpeted as being the first part of a trilogy, and the second is about to appear. The publishers loved them. However, what they didn`t love was this, the third book in the series.

They didn`t think the children of America were up to dealing with drugs and bombs and gang wars, and have decided not to publish The Seagulls Have Landed – thus becoming the first trilogy to have only two books in it.

Not to worry – my publishers in the UK are right behind the book, and it will appear as the fitting conclusion to the story of Eddie Malone and the Reservoir Pups in May 2005.
